The United States has initiated a fresh series of military strikes on Iranian targets, reigniting tensions in the Middle East and fueling apprehensions about a broader regional conflict. This offensive comes shortly after a halt in hostilities and follows Iran’s attack on a U.S. military base in Jordan that houses American personnel. In response, President Donald Trump issued a stern warning, stating that the U.S. would respond “very hard” to Iran’s provocations.
U.S. Central Command has confirmed that American forces conducted a series of strikes lasting two hours, targeting numerous sites associated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps. These operations focused on military command centers, missile and drone facilities, as well as coastal defense and surveillance installations. Iranian authorities have reported explosions on Qeshm Island near the strategic Strait of Hormuz and in the Khuzestan province. State media have indicated that at least two individuals sustained injuries as a result of these attacks.
The resurgence of military activity follows previous strikes on Iran-backed militias in Iraq, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of several fighters and Iranian advisors. The current escalation has intensified concerns about the potential spread of conflict throughout the region, while international diplomatic efforts to revive negotiations between Washington and Tehran have reached an impasse.
The renewed tensions have had a significant impact on global energy markets, with Brent crude oil prices surging by over 7%. The sharp increase is attributed to fears of possible disruptions to oil supplies traversing critical Middle East shipping routes.
