The United States has resumed sharing intelligence with Ukraine regarding Russian missile attacks, a move that could provide critical advance warnings to help protect civilians, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This development follows discussions in Norway between Zelenskyy and US envoy Steve Witkoff.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the renewed cooperation, emphasizing the importance of early warnings in safeguarding civilians, including children and adults, amid ongoing Russian aggression. He noted that the shared intelligence could play a vital role in saving lives as missile strikes continue to threaten Ukraine.
The announcement comes during a period of tension between Washington and Kyiv over the future of US military assistance and the broader efforts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict. US President Donald Trump has pushed for a peace agreement, while Ukraine maintains that any resolution must respect its sovereignty and include its direct involvement in negotiations.
Witkoff is also scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to explore possible pathways toward negotiations, though significant disagreements persist regarding the terms of a potential settlement.
During the talks, Zelenskyy voiced concerns about constraints impacting Ukraine’s military communications and the availability of Patriot air defense interceptors. He indicated a willingness to consider halting long-range attacks on Russian oil refineries if the US were to provide additional Patriot missiles to bolster Ukraine’s defenses.
The Ukrainian president firmly rejected any negotiation proposals that exclude Ukraine from discussions about its future, underscoring the necessity for Kyiv to have a seat at the table in talks concerning its territory and security.
Meanwhile, Russian attacks continued to inflict casualties across Ukraine. On Tuesday, at least nine individuals were reported dead, including three victims of a Russian drone strike on vehicles traveling along the Kyiv-Odesa highway. Four more people were injured in the incident.
While the resumption of intelligence sharing is expected to enhance Ukraine’s preparedness for incoming missile strikes, uncertainty lingers over the scope of future US military support and the potential for a negotiated conclusion to the conflict.
