Egypt has dispatched experts and heavy machinery to aid the search for Israeli hostage remains in Gaza, a process Hamas claims is “hampered by extensive destruction.” This effort to save the truce comes as Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is focused on the future, demanding a veto over the peace force.
The slow return of remains—only 18 from Hamas—has prompted a public warning from Donald Trump.
While Egypt assists on the ground, Netanyahu is maneuvering diplomatically. He declared Sunday that “Israel will determine which forces are unacceptable to us” for the international force, a move he says the US supports.
This stance has already been used to signal a block on Turkey.
The truce was also tested by an Israeli strike on the Nuseirat camp, which Hamas called a “clear violation” of the ceasefire.
