“In Principle and Generalities”: Hamas Greenlights Post-War Talks

In a carefully worded but significant step, Hamas has greenlit post-war talks by agreeing “in principle and generalities” to a US-led plan, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced. This political concession is part of a wider deal to end the Gaza war, which is now “90 per cent” complete.
The immediate focus of the deal remains the release of all Israeli hostages. In a reciprocal action, the Israeli military is set to pull back to the “yellow line,” a position it held in mid-August. This exchange is currently being finalized.
Rubio emphasized the importance of Hamas’s tentative agreement on a future framework. While acknowledging that the consensus is still broad, he presented it as a critical opening for establishing a durable peace after two years of conflict.
The initiative is a priority for President Donald Trump, who has endorsed it as a “great deal for Israel.” He has also put immense pressure on Hamas with a threat of “complete obliteration” and has stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is aligned with the plan.
The final logistical details of the hostage release are now being worked out. These talks will also serve to test the strength of Hamas’s “in principle” commitments, with the outcome expected shortly.
