Former President Donald Trump posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to far-right commentator Charlie Kirk at the White House on what would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday. The award was accepted by Kirk’s widow, Erika, in a ceremony honoring his political activism and influence on younger conservative voters.
Kirk, who was shot at Utah Valley University in September, was a polarizing figure known for his leadership of Turning Point USA and support for Trump’s campaigns. During the ceremony, Erika Kirk praised her late husband’s faith and dedication, suggesting he might have pursued the presidency had he lived longer.
Trump highlighted Kirk’s loyalty and activism, while attendees included senior Trump allies and political associates. The award marks the latest in Trump’s history of recognizing his supporters with the nation’s highest civilian honor.
